LOVE IS…LINGERIE

What is love? Passion? Faith? Devotion? Loyalty? Nurture? It’s all those and more. Love changes over time; it is multifaceted and means different things to different people. But what they all have in common is an unmistakable glow—love fills a person with luminosity. So what better way to celebrate love during the month of romance than with some sensational sparkle at Thailand’s first-ever Crystal Theatre lingerie pop-up.

Curated by Prapakas Angsusingha (the talent behind the National Costume for Miss Thailand Universe 2017) and hosted by EmQuartier, Bangkok the LOVE IS luxury lingerie event brought together crystallized collections from Wacoal, BSC Lingerie, ELLE Lingerie, Guy Laroche and Morgan. The idea was to create a narrative showcase that explored love in its myriad dimensions:


For Wacoal, love is Compassion—a theme inspired by the great love story from The Phantom of the Opera. Its collection borrows elements from the baroque style and décor of the great Paris Opera House to create sublime pieces that hint at mystery and seduction.

BSC Lingerie says that love is True and brings to life the story of Matanapata, a classic Thai romance novel. Here, a beautiful angel is cursed to live on earth as a rose, only allowed to inhabit her human form on a full moon until she finds true love. The sensual designs in this collection play on the rose’s velvet petals and spiky thorns, transforming them into black armor-like forms embellished with lace and scarlet crystals.

Passion is ELLE Lingerie’s take on Swan Lake. Filled with ballet-inspired pieces, such as lacy delicates and structured corset bras, the crystal-studded palette runs the rainbow from pretty pastels to dramatic black in a representation of the White Swan and Black Swan characters.

Guy Laroche explores love as Confusion, basing its collection on the emotional bewilderment of Madame Butterfly, Puccini’s opera about an innocent young Geisha’s love leading to tragedy. Gossamer pink designs adorned with butterflies and Japanese detailing, including origami and Mizuhiki knots, are exquisitely romantic.

For Morgan, love is Sacrifice: the story of The Little Mermaid was chosen to embody this concept, with transparent organza and chiffon enhanced by Leavers lace, Italian stretch satin and hand-sewn Swarovski crystals.

Guests at the exclusive showcase enjoyed a spectacle lit up by more than 20 million crystals in total: that included over 200,000 beads bedazzling the outfits, which counted full-body stockings and extravagant accessories as well as sophisticated and refined lingerie. A further 250,000 crystals cascaded down the curtains and illuminated the Quartier Gallery with a shimmering rainbow.

If you’d like to romance your body with a little of the same sparkle, hurry along to The Mall Group’s Crystal Walk-in Closet, a pop-up selling the LOVE IS collections at the following locations in Bangkok: EmQuartier from February 1–7; Emporium from February 8–14; Paragon, Main Hall 2 from February 15–21; and Lingerie Salon at all The Mall Department Store from February 22–28.
