CRYSTALS À LA CARTE

A byword for Old World Italian luxury, the landmark Hotel Principe di Savoia, overlooking Milan’s Piazza della Repubblica, has all that the aesthete traveller could wish for: a grand neoclassical façade; elegant rooms filled with Murano glass and antiques; gilt and velvet furnishings; and rooms that boast marble bathrooms and hand-painted frescoes. And, being a temporary home to the globe’s best traveled since the decadent Twenties—celebrities, presidents, and even royalty—it means that guests also expect the finest that hospitality can offer. To dine in its Acanto Restaurant overlooking a garden adorned with a beautiful 18th-century fountain is to enjoy the ultimate in Italian cuisine in an exceptional setting.

Continuing the hotel’s century-long tradition of stylish luxury and personal service is a new restaurant table, Tavolo Cristallo. As an exclusive crystallized gourmet experience, it’s designed for intimate dining parties of up to six people. Launching on October 17, the first group of fine-dining lovers has already booked the table, and will travel all the way from Australia to enjoy a personalized menu created by executive chef Alessandro Buffolino. Chef Buffolino will meet with his guests personally to discuss his exceptional dishes, while the sommelier will introduce a selection of premium wines from the region, as well as prestigious vineyards worldwide.

This glamorous table isn’t simply about the food, however, because interior designer Celeste Dell’ Anna has also transformed it into a private crystal boudoir. Working with top names such as Stefano Ricci Home and Luxury Living, he has styled sumptuous settings of red and gold, and lined the room with panels that sparkle with Swarovski crystals, before conjuring an intimate dining area using cascading curtains of Crystal Strands. The effect is almost like sitting inside the garden’s sparkling fountain. As the diners step back through the crystal curtain at the end of an extraordinary evening, they will leave with just about every one of their senses sated.
