Crystal Rhythms

Costumes and Awards Sparkle Under the Spotlights at the GOC GrandSlam DanceSport Competition organized by the WDSF in collaboration with SwarovskiThere was an additional surprise at dancesport’s German Open Championship GrandSlam 2018. As well as four costumes showcasing the unique effects Swarovski crystals can achieve under spotlights, dancers and audience were invited to the Swarovski booth to co-create the first ever GOC Swarovski Showpiece dress. The sparkling result deserved a trophy of its own!

The level of sparkle matched the winner’s smiles at the German Open Championship (GOC) GrandSlam at Stuttgart’s famous Liederhalle Culture & Congress Center. Not only did Swarovski light up the dance floor with crystals galore as proud sponsor of the World Dance Sport Federation, it also provided the stunning awards for the Latin and Standard grand slams. Each featured a finely crafted crystal column with a multifaceted head specially engraved by Swarovski. To add to the fun, audience and dancers were also treated to a dazzling display of costumes at the Swarovski booth.

Chrisanne Clover created two of the showpieces: one blazed with ombré effect Scarlet crystals in dramatic contrast to its seductive black feathers; the other went for high-wattage impact, with eye-popping crystals from Swarovski’s Crystal Electric Lacquer Pro family curling around the bodice. Katia Convents, meanwhile, chose Geometric Flat Backs in ocean-blue shades to demonstrate knockout style in a vertical panel down the front of its elegant gown. And Sirius drenched its asymmetric mini-dress in Shimmer effect crystals for a look that demanded the spotlight.

Another highlight saw the audience invited to co-create a costume with Swarovski: the impromptu designers were thrilled to find themselves an essential part of the first-ever GOC Swarovski Showpiece! Having been given a chance to embellish a dress using the tools and crystals provided, what they achieved was spectacular. The final treat was for the Swarovski raffle winners, whose participation in a quick survey saw them winning crystallized picture frames. What a competition!
