Glamour, American-style, at the CFDA Fashion Awards

Hosted by everyone’s favourite Awkward Black Girl Issa Rae, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) paid tribute to home-grown talent at a star-studded ceremony on June 4. It was Swarovski’s 17th consecutive year as partner of the prestigious awards, so naturally the sparkle count was sky-high. Indeed, the Brooklyn Museum in NYC was decorated with nearly two million crystals for the event.

As the first woman to host the CFDA Awards since 2009, the actor/writer/director of hit HBO show Insecure ramped up the glamour to really show the boys how it’s done. Her custom Pyer Moss electric-blue asymmetric jumpsuit simply dazzled with 180,000 Swarovski crystals drenching its mesh overlay. There’s nothing insecure about this stylish lady!

Other fashion icons lighting up the occasion were Kaia Gerber, Alexander Wang and Joan Smalls. The latter accessorized her bubble-gum pink skirt and crop-top with crystallized hoop earrings and cuff from Brandon Maxwell’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection. Wang, meanwhile, had crystal-branded Gerber’s perfect limbs with his natural-born showman’s flair. A Swarovski-covered clutch made the ideal match.

Karlie Kloss (wearing Atelier Swarovski by Jason Wu) presented the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent to Sander Lak for Sies Marjan. Not only does this gifted young designer win generous financial support from Swarovski, he’ll be given access to its vast treasure trove of crystals.

The ever-glamorous Diane von Furstenberg was honored with the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, given in recognition of positive impact made on communities by an individual in the US fashion industry. So, it was fitting that Parkland student Delaney Tarr presented this award.

Other crystal-adorned fashion faces included Camila Mendes in Atelier Swarovski by Iris Apfel and Martha Hunt, who incorporated Swarovski into her makeup as well as accessorizing with Atelier Swarovski Fine Jewelry.

Every guest was given a limited-edition Swarovski crystal fashion patch. Among them were Amber Heard, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jourdan Dunn and Irina Shayk. Designed by the likes of Jason Wu and Rosie Assoulin, the patches are available to buy in selected Swarovski outlets in NYC till June 14, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the CFDA Foundation. Better get yours quick!

Our warmest congratulations to all the evening’s winners. The future of American fashion is safe in your hands!
