Going, Going…Gone!

Undressing Anna Dello RussoNever mind New York Fashion Week. Forget London Fashion Week. The big news isn’t Milan Fashion Week, even. It’s Anna Dello Russo: International editor, stylist and Italy’s original fashion fan-girl has spring-cleaned her wardrobes! Key pieces from that legendary collection, accrued over thirty years and spread across three sites (shoes alone number at 4,000!), have been sold.

On February 24, Dello Russo co-hosted a dinner with Nadja Swarovski following a charity auction of her personal fashion archive. What precipitated this momentous event? we hear you cry. While it heralds the publication in April of her “AdR Book: Beyond Fashion,” this is a true project of philanthropy: all proceeds from the auction were generously donated to the Swarovski Foundation’s initiatives to support emerging design talent.

Included in the auction organized by Christie’s were complete looks as worn by Anna, such as an Armani ensemble for her sister’s wedding in 1988—shoes, handbag, underwear, the lot. Plus special items like her Prada chandelier dress, as well as a bespoke crystal and feather headpiece by Gareth Pugh. The whole lot raised over €150,000—amazing! Afterwards, at the exclusive crystal-adorned dinner, Nadja and Anna unveiled the next stage in this sparkling collaboration, a regal Atelier Swarovski by Anna Dello Russo jewelry collection.
