Greek Fashion Students’ Stylish Debut

When Greek’s AKMI College Fashion Students Unveiled Their Graduation Show Studded with Swarovski Crystals, They Introduced the “Urban Nomad”

Encouraging emerging design talent through partnerships with top design colleges is a cornerstone of Swarovski’s philosophy. So, when leading Greek college IEK AKMI (one out of the 10  world’s biggest and most reputable fashion schools) showcased the sophisticated daring of the class of 2019’s graduation catwalk at the Metropolitan College, expectations were high. No one was disappointed…

Entitled Urban Nomads, this was a chance for 22 students to show off the hothouse of talent that’s being nurtured by Greece’s most important Fashion & Beauty program. From the classic elegance of a simple white gown delicately adorned with sprays of dark crystals to the sharply fitted lines of a sleeveless black satin pantsuit finished with a flamboyant gray and silver crystal-encrusted cuff, these sometimes edgy, always exuberant designs earned rapturous applause from an audience of parents, past graduates, and fashion industry personalities.

The internationally-acclaimed designer and ambassador for AKMI, Vrettos Vrettakos, was joined by TV presenter and radio host Dimitris Ouggarezos and influential fashion photographer Dimitris Skoulos to identify the most gifted student. The top award went to Uğur Osmanoğlu whose dramatic “L’âl” dress in vibrant colors embellished with 3,000 red Swarovski crystals proved to be an eloquent homage to the richly colorful traditions of nomadic dress.
