Puttin’ on the Ritz

PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ, Events - Editorial | Crystals from Swarovski

The Ritz Palace on Paris’ Place Vendôme has been a place of comfort and luxury since 1898, when César Ritz hosted an A-list of literary, artistic and aristocratic guests. Among them was Coco Chanel, who lived there from 1937–71; Marcel Proust wrote part of In Search of Lost Time in bed at the hotel; and Ernest Hemingway liked to say he had liberated the Ritz after Word War 2.

It proved a breath-taking venue for ELLE magazine’s legendary VIP evening on August 29. Everyone who is anyone in the fashion industry was in attendance networking, meeting up with old colleagues and associates, seeing and being seen. Swarovski was there, too, partnering with ELLE to add a little extra sparkle to the evening. Riffing on the “Island Beach” theme, crystal curtains were suspended among the scene-setting décor to resemble streams; 80 large, Clear crystal chatons with a black patina effect lit up huge vases on the champagne bars; and guests sat in the Ritz’s stunning formal garden at tables sprayed with crystal dust in Crystal and Jet colors. For sheer drama, it was an unforgettable!
