Seductive. Sophisticated. Soigné.

Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016

“Chic, timeless and excessively Parisian,” is how the man himself described the Spring/Summer 2016 Haute Couture collection that he sent down the runway at the Arts Décoratifs in Paris on January 26.

The Alexandre Vauthier woman is foxy, urban, empowered, and very sure of herself; so the couturier clothed her accordingly in ultra-feminine looks with a touch of edginess and smoldering, decadent glamour enhanced with the light-refracting shimmer of crystals.

In a nod to streetwear, cargo pants featured oversize thigh-hugging pockets teamed with immaculately cut silk and jeweled tank tops, accessorized with fierce-looking gladiator sandals. With an eye to the cocktail set, floor-skimming crystal-embellished couture gowns were all about less is more: Draped to flow with the movement of the body with the precision that comes from masterful tailoring, they were cleverly cut to reveal a thigh here, a shoulder there, the back, or a glimpse of midriff. Nothing was ever over the top—Monsieur Vauthier doesn’t do vulgar, he does savoir-faire. With a clean palette of jet-black, military-inspired khaki and eye-popping femme fatale red, these were seductive pieces, but very, very classy.

Having been awarded an Haute Couture Appellation in late 2014, the eyes of the world are on what Alexandre Vauthier will do next. They are very unlikely to be disappointed.
