Stars on Parade at 2017 CFDA Awards

For anyone in the fashion world, from its rising design stars to its longtime champions, June brings a frisson of anticipation. It heralds the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards, which honors the innovators and leaders of American fashion. So, on June 5, New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom blazed with creative energy as this year’s winners took to the stage.

For 16 years, Swarovski has partnered with the CFDA for its awards ceremony, bringing glamour and sparkle to the evening. This year the décor shone like never before, with around 87 million Swarovski crystals twinkling in chandeliers and tabletop lanterns, and on the crystal podium and the crystal winner’s walk backdrop.

On the night, celebrities and fashion icons alike, including Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, Nicole Kidman, and Jon Bon Jovi formed a starry line-up to present the awards. While Kerry Washington, another presenter, wowed with some serious sparkle on her gown, wearing a Prabal Gurung dress shimmering with Swarovski crystals.

As the Oscars of the fashion world sparkled on, two new awards from Swarovski were presented, honoring groundbreaking achievements in fashion design as well as contributions to the wider world. The Swarovski Award for Emerging talent—a unified award bringing together the best of menswear, womenswear, and accessory design—went to Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia for Monse. As part of their coup, the designers will enjoy generous support from Swarovski with a wide range of bespoke crystals at their disposal.

Meanwhile, the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, which recognizes an American designer who has made a major impact on the wider community, went to Kenneth Cole for a lifetime of championing progressive causes, including AIDS awareness and political action.

Congratulations to all 2017’s CFDA winners!
