‘The Regiment’: The military story by Shantanu & Nikhil

Kicking off the Fashion season of couture and grandeur were Shantanu & Nikhil: a designer duo that gives us magnificent drapes with signature tailoring season after season. For the Fall/Winter 17 collection, the master couturiers took inspiration from the Indian Armed Forces and infused its virtues with the sparkle from Swarovski Crystals, calling their collection “The Regiment”

Their journey with Swarovski began with their trip to the Swarovski Headquarters in Austria, meeting with the design team and getting acquainted with the plethora of Crystal offerings and innovations. It was the crystals designed by automotive design genius – Chris Bangle, that appealed to them the most.

Shantanu & Nikhil used these crystal innovations in Brooches that appeared as medallions on a military uniform, giving each ensemble a captivating effect. The collection drove its inspiration from the 3 strong virtues of the Indian armed forces – Discipline, Pride & Togetherness, with a crisp salute to everything Nehruvian. Dramatic and heroic re-appropriation of male presence through female form was the cornerstone of the collection, where feminine/masculine, hard/soft, defend/protect became the new dialog.

Commenting on the collaboration Vivek Ramabhadran, Vice President, Asia South Region for Swarovski Professional, said “What began from Shantanu & Nikhil’s journey to the Swarovski Headquarters in Austria has resulted into a unique product in the form of their collection – The Regiment. They worked with the creative design team there which also helped them understand the DNA of our product and innovations. The bejewelled brooches and medallions in their collection are the perfect amalgamation of design, creativity and passion put together in the designer duo’s signature style. We loved how they experimented with different and innovative Swarovski crystals to put together this season’s bold and sharp accessories”

The Regiment accented with crystals from Swarovski is a reiteration of the designers’ vision of belonging to something that is bigger than ourselves and its underlying modern India spirit that symbolises progressivism and distinctiveness.
