Paris Haute Couture, July 5, 2017: If anyone ever doubted the star power of Bella Hadid—arguably the model of the moment—all they had to do was attend Alexandre Vauthier’s unforgettable Paris Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017 show at the Grand Palais: she owned the runway. Among several head-swiveling outfits worn by the supermodel was a plunging, full-crystal wrap-dress belted with a black velvet sash. Arguably the showstopper of the collection, it moved like liquid silver as she sashayed imperiously down the runway.
To shine that brightly was quite a feat, given that Bella Hadid’s gown was among a procession of astonishing outfits embroidered with Swarovski crystals by Maison Lesage, including Vauthier’s signature mini dresses with all-over crystal detailing and flamboyant crystal-embellished ruffles. It didn’t stop there: footwear included lace-up boots with hand-applied crystals and crystal-tasseled stilettos, while jackets and hats were set off with fabulous crystal brooches. With 300,000 Swarovski crystals in Chrysolite, Violet, Fuchsia, and Jet blazing under magenta lighting with an exuberant disco-ball vibe, Vauthier’s message was clear: “Party like it’s 1980!”
