If interior design gets you as excited as the latest Louboutins or Birkin bag, then you’ll be familiar with the hand-forged, high-style lighting of Hubbardton Forge. Last year, in collaboration with Swarovski, the Vermont-based artisans launched the Synchronicity collection of lighting fixtures.
After its unveiling at the international Lightovation show in Dallas, Texas, pieces such as the Gaia pendant, with its steel vines and leaves cradling Oval Pear crystals, and the circular Aria pendant, sparkling with Swarovski Crystal Fabric in Comet Argent Light, went stellar. To put it in their own words: it’s a “mercurial marriage of delicate, hand-forged steel with exquisitely cut crystals and handmade glass,” which to a large extent explains its success. So we’re thrilled that some stunning new pieces with a distinctly emboldened edge have been added to the range.
New pendant and sconce designs have the unmistakable heirloom quality of Hubbardton Forge. Here, you’ll find precision-cut crystals set in finely wrought steel, like jewelry made to adorn your home:
The Arabesque pendant was inspired by the rhythmic, linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing foliage found in decorative art and architecture. Each polished steel curve ends in a prismatic Swarovski Briolette crystal drop to bring a spirited, filigree look to elegant interiors. The airy, lightweight feel makes it especially suited to hanging over a dining table.
Likewise, the Aurora pendant showcases the blacksmiths’ skills at sculpting metal, its wonderful curvilinear forms recalling the undulations of the spectacular Northern Lights. Scintillating asymmetric crystal drops amp up the dazzle.
The Hendrix pendant and sconce offer a striking contemporary arrangement that references mid-century silhouettes. It brings them up to date with a lightness of touch that sees tiny crystals strung across the hollow center of each steel shape like strings across the sound hole of a guitar. As the Forge says: “The strong rhythmic steel forms add an electrified dynamic to our symphony.”
Inspired by an exploding star, the Nova pendant makes a brilliantly eye-catching centerpiece. For added impact, each gleaming steel shard is finished with a “perfectly imperfect” Kaputt crystal designed by iconic French couturier Jean Paul Gaultier.
Fredrickson Stallard’s new Glaciarium crystals take their inspiration from the raw crystals found in nature. Held within the Trove pendant and Trove sconce, the Forge has used them to enhance its artfully distressed steel silhouettes, taking industrial chic to new levels of beauty.
The signature of the new Synchronicity designs can be found in the bolder lines and crystals designed to perform with a refined confidence. This becomes most apparent in the seductive complexity of the Stitch sconce. Here, glittering splinters of ice-like crystals pierce a folded steel column to make a real talking point for any wall.
Hubbardton Forge is for anyone who loves dressing their home as much as they enjoy dressing themselves.
