Jimmy Choo’s feast for the eyes

Holiday season shoppers are served up an extra tasty treat this year, the 20th anniversary of fashion’s favorite upscale shoe. Sandra Choi, Jimmy Choo’s Creative Director, has created a truly dazzling feast for the eyes across the world’s top stores and boutiques. She refers to the concept behind the in-store displays and window installations as “a crystallized banquet,” and we’re all invited to enjoy the party.

Reminiscent of a surreal Versailles wedding feast illuminated with Swarovski magic, the banqueting tables offer bird’s-eye views of a baroque masterpiece of faux delights. From golden goblets and magnums of champagne, to caviar and lobster, alongside a profusion of plump fruits, the tableaux are encrusted with shimmering crystals from Swarovski. And at each setting, artfully presented on a plate is an ornate shoe or bag from the Jimmy Choo 2017 Cruise Collection, embellished with jewel-like ornamentation. For those of us more accustomed to the brand’s high-fashion minimalism, such opulence is mesmerizing. It not only feeds our sensual pleasure, it appeals to our intrinsic need for flights of fantasy and gives our imaginations space to play, dream, and escape from humdrum routine. It’s no surprise then that the idea came from Choi’s childhood sense of wonder and giddy delight upon entering a candy store.

Be sure to look out for these fantastic feasts: Jimmy Choo stores in London’s Sloane Street and New Bond Street, as well as in Milan, Munich, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, Dallas, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and Qatar will feature the birds-eye banquet. While stores in Paris and New York City will present the “elevated buffet” version. Special installations featuring a horizontal view of the banqueting table can be seen in Vancouver’s Nordstrom and London’s Harrods, together with Saks, New York, where Sandra Choi will make a special appearance. Further displays are popping up at other upscale stores around the world.
