I Have a Dream…

Fashion’s most creative minds harness game-changing technology

Technology has always been about more than mere usefulness and functionality. The creatives that have had the biggest influence on how we live as we race into the future have been visionaries who have used technology to give shape to their dreams. It is these farsighted and idealistic people that brought about TechDreamers inspired by Swarovski, the spectacular crystallized installation that was realized as part of the twelfth edition of LUISAVIAROMA’s Firenze4Ever biannual fashion showcase.
Game-changing technology is a subject close to our hearts, because in 1895, one of the original ‘tech dreamers’, Daniel Swarovski, laid the foundations for the Swarovski crystal  maison. This bohemian émigré who settled in the Tyrolean region of Austria was the first man to perfect the process of machine-cutting crystals. Fast-forward nearly 120 years, and Swarovski is still renowned for its innovative crystal-cutting technologies and future-forward approach to design.

As a reminder of its rich heritage, 100,000 crystals paved the entry to the ‘TechDreamers’ showcase inside the iconic Italian store. Imagine a prismatic LED-lit grotto surrounded by quartz mirrors, fusing real-life architecture with mesmerizing optical illusions… It was an electrifying embodiment of the show’s concept.

Once inside the showcase, the ‘future dreaming’ continued as visitors found themselves surrounded by a dazzling array of limited edition designer pieces. Created exclusively for LUISAVIAROMA, the ‘ ’ consists of thirty pieces commissioned from fashion’s most creative minds: Alexandre Vauthier, Alberta Ferretti, Antonio Marras, Balmain, Blumarine, Emilio Pucci, Givenchy, Peter Pilotto, Rochas, Viktor&Rolf, Vivienne Westwood and Zuhair Murad, to name just a few, have each interpreted 120 years of iconic Swarovski crystals in garments, shoes, bags and accessories, with a view to shaping the next 120 years of fashion.
