As a two-time Oscar nominee herself, Dern understands the power of the Academy Awards red carpet to make a global statement, so she championed the drive for conscious luxury and positive change by showcasing pieces from Atelier Swarovski’s Fine Jewelry collection. Her stunning geometric drop earrings were made using Swarovski Created Diamonds set in 18-karat white gold by Parisian craftsmen. These gems are grown in a state-of-the-art laboratory, yet have the same brilliant attributes as mined diamonds. Glinting from golden-era Hollywood waves, and teamed with a Calvin Klein by Appointment plunging column gown in color-of-the-night white, they hit just the right note. As a finishing touch, a crystallized clutch complemented the classic elegance of the ensemble.
Actress, activist and friend of the brand, Laura Dern is a woman whose strength, style and social engagement epitomize the values that drive the Atelier Swarovski story. Other inspirational women lighting the way for conscious luxury at the Oscars included models Shanina Shaik and Lais Ribeiro, who both carried Atelier Swarovski clutches to the Elton John AIDS Foundation 26th Annual Oscars Viewing Party. Ribeiro’s Mirror clutch, glittering with Jet Hematite crystals, was a sensational addition to her midnight-blue strapless, thigh-slit dress. At the other end of the spectrum, Shaik’s Marina clutch shimmered in white silk to match her deep-plunge gown. Over at the Vanity Fair party, Isla Fisher chose a scarlet version of the Marina to go with her red-hot asymmetric gown. (Trend note: Like Dern and Ribeiro, long glossy waves worn over one shoulder were the hair story here, too.)
#MeToo, Time’s Up, Inclusion Rider…Clearly, times are a-changing. Swarovski aims to make sure that its jewelry keeps up with the pace.
